What is Doppler Radar?
A doppler radar is simply a big white ball usually located on top of a 50 foot tower.
What it does is sends out a beam to detect precipitation and uses the doppler effect to detect wind velocities.
If there is precipitation in the path of the radar signal the radar signal will bounce off the precipitation
in all directions, some of it will be reflected back to the radar tower where the information is sent to a computer.
The beam scans in one direction at a time and takes a minute to scan in every direction to get the image you see
on your computer screen.
